Junior Band

The Junior High Band Program designed as a sequential and developmental approach to music instruction.  There is a grade 7 band that focuses on developing basic skills with students.  The Grade 8/9 Band works on refining and expanding the skills attained in previous years. 

Phys Ed

The aim of the Physical Education Program is to expose students to a wide variety of physical activities with the expectation of creating an appreciation for fitness and the value of lifetime activities.

 

A wide variety of activities are offered through the physical education program at BMC.  These activities cover the five dimensions of the curriculum and include:

  • Alternate Environment:  skating, hockey/ringette, broomball, curling, various outdoor pursuits including walking, hiking, orienteering, cross-country skiing....
  • Dance:  polka, two-step, jive, hip-hop......
  • Games:  cooperative games, softball, soccer, basketball, touch/flag football, ultimate Frisbee, floor hockey, rugby, volleyball, badminton, pickle ball, table tennis, bocce, bowling, golf.....
  • Types of Gymnastics:  balances/pyramids, stuntnastics......
  • Individual Activities:  track & field, wrestling, self-defense, juggling, skipping, aerobics, weight training, circuit training, plyometrics, yoga.....

In addition to various activities, fitness theory will also be incorporated into this course. 

Home Economics

Junior High Home Economics is designed to provide students with the basic knowledge and skills revolving around food preparation.  Students will learn about kitchen safety, sanitation, measuring , and kitchen equipment via a hands on approach to instructions.  Students are expected to particpate and enjoy the fine meals that are created in this class.   

Shop

Students in Junior High Shop will start to develop their woodworking skills. This class consists of a theory component that when mastered, porvides student the hands on learning experience of working in the shop and creating their own projects.  The main topics in the class are; safety, measurement, hand and power tool identification and project building.  Student who take this class receive the invaluable experience of developing skills that have practical uses throughout their life. 

Art

Junior High Arts is a a course focuses on three major components of visual learning:

DRAWINGS or delineations - all the ways we record visual information and discoveries.

COMPOSITIONS or structures - all the ways images are put together to create meaning.

ENCOUNTERS with art - where we meet and how we respond to visual imagery

Students learn the skills that will enable them to be successful in Art 10/20/30
