BMC COVID Update #2

November 4, 2020 → 10:45 AM

Dear Parents and Students,

This is to inform you that a second positive case of COVID-19 was confirmed with a staff member in our school community as of this morning. BMC is acting quickly to isolate the affected cohorts, and we are working with Alberta Health Services to ensure the necessary measures are in place to protect all students and staff.  Due to a shortage of staff and to allow for enhanced cleaning, in-school learning is suspended for Wednesday, November 4, 2020 at BMC.  Sending students home today is a precautionary safety measure.

As communicated to you on Sunday, November 1, the initial grade 8 and 9 cohorts of students and staff who are self-isolating as a result of that positive COVID-19 case are scheduled to return to in-school learning on Thursday, November 12..

The staff member who tested positive this morning, has quarantined since Sunday.  As such, there has not been close contact between that individual and students.  There has, however, been close contact with other staff members.  In light of this, these affected staff members have been directed to quarantine.  Enhanced cleaning of all areas this individual worked in is taking place today.   We are confident that with everyone following protocols, we can continue to keep BMC safe for our students.

As per Alberta Health Services’ direction, the school contacted anyone who may have been in close contact with the individual.  Alberta Health Services requires that the affected cohort of staff must quarantine for 14 days.

In consultation with WRPS Central Office and Alberta Health Services, we will determine a school plan and communicate that to all students, staff, and parents.  We intend to continue in-school learning, with remote learning available via Google Classroom for those who require it.

An update on school operations for the next ten days will be communicated by 4:00 pm today.  All communication will be sent out via School Messenger (through email) and will be located on our website, Instagram, and Facebook account.

We will continue to work closely with Alberta Health Services and the Medical Officer of Health to ensure that we follow their ongoing recommendations.  The health and safety of our students and staff remains our first priority, and we are confident in the measures we have in place.  Please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions you may have.  Thank you for your continued support.

Sincerely,

Jon Meyers
